After the Rain

Stories by Dina Sokal

About the Author

Dina Sokal is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist. She and her husband, Alan Hirsch, have three children, Lucy, Ann, and Sam, and two grandchildren, Elisheva and Mazzy. Her current hobbies are singing, running, writing and water coloring.

As a child, she read fiction voraciously and dreamed of being a writer. Her favorite librarian, Miss Coughlin found ten books for her to read at every visit to the library.

At night, she’d read in the hallway risking the wrath of her parents. Or, she'd curl up in her favorite rocking chair, blocking out all the commotion from her four brothers, as stories took her to other worlds. And now she’s excited to present to you her first book of stories, After the Rain.

Dr. Sokal is able to articulate the complexity of internal experience, giving us real and relatable characters. She delivers people and situations that resonate with our daily experience.”

After the Rain

A psychiatrist cares for his wife who has dementia and discovers a secret. A young girl searches for acceptance and companionship in her new foster home. A young woman who seeks help for her troubled childhood is stuck in an elevator with her psychiatrist. An older woman clings to the spirit of her departed husband. Creativity—its brushstrokes, rhythm, and musical notes—are the restorative magic in these characters’ lives.
